Now...start raising your FSB in increments, and lock your CPU's multipler at whatever stock is. If anything, I'd be looking at RAM and maybe a Q6600 (and a new OS, as 32bit Windows won't work correctly with 4GB or more of RAM). Hi again pioneer, First off, yes i know my way around the bios, if i leave it at stock and unlink my ram, it wont boot, if i change my ram timings to 5-5-5-18(as defined by ram the pc doesnt seem to like the unlin, so i left the ram timings to default, and it still didnt like it, sometimes it wouldnt boot, somtimes it would stay at a black screen and not even post, - if i manually change my ram down to 667 its the sme - either doesnt boot or something, - i will go back to basics and try all you advised and post back with more(definative) findings, but hopefully your head wont be pickled as mine.
parititioning wont help when querying all the data on the disk U can also use a query hint to force parrallelism MAXDOP this will increase the CPU utilization.
And even in this situation I want to make advice to you: Your applications should not select 5 million records at the time. UPDATE: As you say are doing this for testing, I suggest you to: Look at the query execution plan.
